Dear Midnight,
I am the proud aunt of a horse-lover. My niece is 12 years old and rides Western Pleasure. Time is running out, and I need to get my niece a Christmas present. Being clueless about horses, any ideas? (We live in the United States)
From, WhatToGet
Dear WhatToGet,
Some good Christmas present for tween horse lovers are magazine subscriptions. I am sure you have heard of Young Rider, Horse Illustrated, or Equis. If you go their theses magazines websites, you could get your niece a subscription to one of these horse mags.
Another good idea is to order something off a horsey catalogue. If you have ever heard of Wildhorsefeathers, I am glad. If you haven’t, it is a great catalogue where you can order anything from horse jewelry, to key chains, to Breyer horses.
You could ever get your niece a saddle (if she is a very experienced rider). Before considering this I would suggest talking to your niece's parent or riding instructor to find out the level of riding they are on. If a saddle seems like a good idea, talk to riding instructor and have the instructor give you a good selection of saddles that are appropriate for the type of riding discipline.
You could get your niece a grooming kit.
There are so many choices. You know your niece best :-)

Dear Midnight,
My mom bought me a horse for an early Christmas present this year. He is a stocky bay Quarter Horse gelding named Fisher. He is energetic at times, and gentle at times, but not moody. Fisher is unique and welcoming. Fisher is my dream horse, and I am planning on entering him in my local costume contest this year. I want to go with something very different that fits Fisher's spunky personality. Any ideas?

Dear FishinForACostume,
because your horse has a very unique name, I suggest you and your horse dressing up as fisherman. Your horse could be the boat, and you could be the fishermen. Or you could both be fishermen. It would be adorable to have outdoorsy boots and saddle pad with a neat hat on your horse. Be creative!

Dear Midnight,
I am planning to get my horsey-friend a subscription to a magazine for Xmas this year. I don't know anything about horses, but I still love them. Two suggestions I have gotton are Horse Illustrated and Young Rider. My friend is 9 years old. Which magazine do you think I should get?
From, YR.vs.HI
Dear YR.vs.HI,
Young Rider is a magazine for, well, young riders! It is more appropriate for younger aged groups (8-12) and is filled with horsey fact filled articles that are easy for kids to understand.
Horse Illustrated is more complex and confusing. It is a magazine more aimed to 13years and over and also contains fact-filled horsey articles. But these articles can be hard for young children and hard to understand.
I am going to have to suggest Young Rider.
